Best career guide I’ve seen.
I’ve been working with teen-agers and young adults for over thirty years; counseling them in all areas, including career planning. Johnny Bunko is the only career guide I have ever seen that might capture the imagination and attention of a teen-ager or twenty-something. Way to go Dan and Rob! Awesome job! Thank you.

Career comics advice for people who don’t like to read
Any comic book — excuse me, “manga” book — which claims it’s “the last career guide you’ll ever need” is either deluded or written for suckers. The book develops a few rules of thumb which purport to outline a sort of template for giving work and career choice meaning. People who think along lines of following rules will probably eat this stuff up, but the problems with rule following are many: How should one prioritize the rules? What are the meta-rules — the rules that tell us when to make exception to the rules? How general or particular should the application of the rule be? Why do we trust rules as opposed to deciding merely situation-by-situation? If expert rule givers give us different rule sets, then to which rule set should we give heed? Indeed, the book gives a few general platitudes which few would find controversial. And it’s fun to read manga. But Superman, Spiderman, Batman, etc. are fun to read also, yet why would we build our personal ethic around these stories? Likewise, why should we take manga boy, Johnny Bunko, as any more informative about career choice? Answer: we shouldn’t. Look — it’s a fun book; but, that’s all it is.

Got 30 minutes? Read this book…
“The Karate Kid” meets “Office Space” through the popular Japanese medium “Manga” in this totally enjoyable read. Meet Johnny, toiling slavishly in an unrewarding and uninspiring dead-end job, thinking he’s “paying his dues,” and “getting his ticket punched.” Enter Diana, 3-foot-nothing hard hitting tough love career counseling pixie (think spawn of Mr. Miyagi and Tinkerbell), to show Johnny the ropes and get him moving in a good orderly direction. Fun stuff.

Do I think Mssrs. Pink and Pas have encapsulated the meaning of life into a 125-page comic book? Not necessarily; unlike “7 Habits” or “What Color is Your Parachute,” however, this is a career guide that the recent/impending 18-24 year old high school/college graduate in your life might actually a) read all the way through, and 2) spend the remainder of the hour thinking about. That in itself is no mean feat given the distractions confronting today’s youth.

Now, if I were even fractionally as gifted and talented as the authors, and chose to write a career guide, I might not necessarily espouse precisely the same recipe, but that’s OK; if all this book does is get read by the intended audience, and spark debate on the topic, that in itself constitutes successful literature, in my opinion.

Go ahead, get the book, read it, and pass it on (along with some chopsticks); I sincerely doubt you will regret it. 10 bucks well spent.

Enjoy!

A Must-Read for ALL graduates, educators, parents, and those looking for a career change!
We’ve all been `Johnny Bunko’ at one time or other. Now, there’s help…

Following the success of Daniel H. Pink’s brilliant A WHOLE NEW MIND. WHY RIGHT-BRAINERS WILL RULE THE WORLD, THE ADVENTURES OF JOHNNY BUNKO. THE LAST CAREER GUIDE YOU’LL EVER NEED is a refreshing new style of advice book geared for American audiences but with a universal message applicable anywhere. This time, Pink has chosen to use a Manga illustrated novel format–a style popular in Japan for books on all topics and for people of all ages–as a vehicle for his sage advice. Achieving a winning combination, Pink expertly merges illustrator Rob Ten Pas’ Manga frames with his own wit and wisdom. `Johnny Bunko’ is so entertaining and easy to follow that even left-brainers will love it! :)

The novel follows the title character and a couple of his co-workers on an adventure to not only solve a work-related situation but to also uncover some mysteries. Through this process, the friends look back on their lives, do some soul searching, and stumble upon tips for career and personal success. The book is very accessible and one can read it in an hour or so. What’s more important, readers will gain practical tips for choosing more personally successful and enjoyable career paths, rather than sticking to those chosen by the people around them. Pink stresses that one must feel comfortable with one’s career choice, and urges readers to follow one’s strengths and strive to make a positive difference, among other things. It’s a great message for anyone finding his or her way through the maze career choices in the not-so-cut-and-dry 21st century job market.

I recommend Pinks’ `A Whole New Mind’ and his dynamic video lectures for everyone working in business or education. But, I ESPECIALLY recommend `Johnny Bunko’ for recent graduates (both high school and college) and for anyone else looking to make a career and/ or life change. I teach at a high school and I have been telling everyone I know about this book. I have given it or recommended it to students, parents, counselors, teachers, friends, and even my babysitter. Parents should especially consider buying this book for their teenage children… once they read it themselves. Teens will appreciate the message and they will consider their parents “way hip” for having chosen this ultra-cool 21st century advice book for them. After all, teens’ post-graduation world is different that ours was and they deserve career advice from a person who understands this job market better than most today.

Modern day Seuss writes the new best Grad gift!
This is the perfect “back to school” gift for that college student that thinks they have no worries in the world :-)!

The sooner they get the lessons and start to realize the skills they will really need… the better off they will be!

    Customer Reviews:
    Works well but too fragile.
This thing works great, is precise, and repeatable (which is it’s primary value over some other jigs including homemade ones) Unfortunately, the material is just not up to being mounted and dismounted a lot, so use care and watch the torque when mounting it.

It’s one of those odd tools. Given the fragility of the material, and the fact the cheap materials means there has to be a HUGE markup, it is overpriced. However, it works very well if you don’t break it. It’s the kind of tool after using I’d consider paying 3 times the price to get one in laser etched anodized aluminum rather than plastic.

I give it only 3 starts becuase made out of acrylic, it’s essentially a consumable and WAY too pricey for that.

    Jasper 400J…7″ Circle Cutting Jig
This Jig Is A Must If You Are A DIY Speaker Builder! This Jig Will Route Very Accurate Recessed Areas and The Cut Out Area Also, for A Very Professional Look!

The Unit Was Very Easy To Install And Align On My Skill 1823 Router. Just Follow The Directions If All Else Fails And You Will Be Up and Running Shortly. The Pivot Pin Is A Tight Fit, No Play With this Little Feller. Do Recommend Having A Spare Pin Or 1/8″ Drill Bit Laying Around For BackUp! For Routing The Recessed Areas Use A Standard 1/4″ Bit For Nice Sharp Borders. For The Cutout, Use A Uppercut Spiral Bit, Deep Cuts Can Be Hard On Standard Bits (Ie:Overheated Bits & Dulling). The Spiral Bit Does A Much Faster Job On Cut Out Also!

For First Timers, It Takes Abit Getting Used To And Highly Recommend Doing Some Practice Work On Scrap Stock To Get Comfortable With It! Nothing Worse Then A Botched Up Front Baffle For Your New Speaker System!

This Unit Is For Routers With A 1/4″ Collet And The Use Of A 1/4″ Router Bit

    Nicely made and accurate
I bought the Jasper model 400 circle jig for a DIY loudspeaker project to cut holes and to provide countersink lands for the drivers. I use it with a Bosch 1617EVSPK plunge router. I appreciate the supplied calibration disk and 1/4″ pin that allows the jig to be centered easily on the router base.

The jig is designed to be used with a 1/4″ diameter cutting bit but I wanted to use a 3/4″ diameter bit for a large woofer countersink land. I quickly discovered that the 1/4″ bit specification is for real because the 3/4″ diameter bit wouldn’t pass through the opening on the jig.

No problem - just plug in the router, dial in a slow speed, and plunge the 3/4″ bit through the jig itself! By enlarging the center opening, I lost the 1″, 1-1/16″, and 1-1/8″ pin holes, but for holes this small I’d probably just use a hole saw anyway. Don’t try this with anything larger or you’ll lose the ability to center the jig on the router base using the supplied calibration disk.

The jig does a nice job, works easily, and does what it’s advertised to do. I’d buy another in a heartbeat when this one breaks or wears out, especially for Amazon’s current price of just under $20 bucks.

    OK Product
I have used this product previously for acrylic manufacturing and found the pivot point holes to be very accurate. It is very helpful to use a drill press instead of a hand drill for the holes. Extra pins are almost essential as tool is useless without it. Item is semi-consumable because of softness and thickness of the plastic it is made from, but very good accuracy for my needs.

I did receive wrong item from Amazon vendor so I am commenting on an item I bought locally.

    Works Well
Installed easily and worked well. I used an 8D finish nail with the head cut off for the pivot instead of drilling and using the provided dowel. I wanted the cut-out for a project but didn’t compensate for cutter diameter and was undersize at first attempt. Ooops.

An aluminum version would be better.

This was ordered for a coworker that was having wrist pain from improper placement of their keyboard - this helped greatly to have a dropdown keyboard tray and the price couldn’t be beat. Couldn’t be happier with the product - easy installation also.

    Works Great!

    Customer Reviews:
my 7 yr old neice likes it, but its way too expensive
I received this free from Sephora as a birthday present because I signed up as a Beauty Insider. I gave it to my neice for her 7th birthday and she likes it, but there’s no reason this product should cost $16. I’m betting the ingredients, packaging & shipping costs don’t total more than $3. I wouldn’t buy it.

    smells like bananas
I like the philosophy line, but the Vanilla Birthday Cake body wash doesn’t smell so much like birthday cake as it does bananas.

    The product is great though.

    Very sweet!
I agree with the previous commenter that the scent doesn’t continue post-bath (which may be a good thing if you wanted to apply a different scent, or a bad thing if you were hoping to smell like vanilla afterwards) also, I wouldn’t reccomend just shampooing with this to be the only step in your hair care regime (extremely convenient 3-in-1 is great for travel but not for everyday.) definitely use a conditioner!!!

But all in all it is a very lovely scent, makes a great bubble bath and leaves skin silky smooth & clean.

    Smell doesn’t last long.
I wasn’t really thrilled with this product. It smells great but as soon as the shower is over the thrill is gone.
